Getting started with Enode One

Enode One is the app for training yourself. You get your own sessions, your own history, and real-time feedback on every rep, with an Apple Watch app so the guidance is on your wrist while you lift.

Coaching other people? Enode One is not your app. Coaches, teams, universities and facilities use Enode Pro, which handles multiple athletes, session planning and staff roles. See Getting started with Enode Pro.

Before you start with the sensor

The sensor is designed to work without the barbell strap, but we recommend always using the strap. It helps the measurement behave consistently, and it stops the sensor detaching from the equipment unintentionally.

Download the app and create your account

Whether you are completely new to Enode or moving across from Enode Pro, start by downloading the app. The current version has an orange background, so you can tell at a glance that you have the right one.

  1. Download the Enode app from the App Store, then choose the individual pathway. Create a new account, or sign in with an existing one, using your email address.
  2. Enter the one-time code. We email you a code, sometimes called an OTP. Type it in to finish setting the account up. There is no password to choose or remember.
  3. Open the app again and sign in to your account.
  4. Allow Bluetooth and location. Both need to be enabled for the Enode app. Bluetooth is how the sensor connects, and phone operating systems require location permission before an app can search for nearby Bluetooth devices, whether or not the app uses your location.

Setting up your profile

Once you have chosen the individual pathway, the app walks you through a short setup.

Apple Health. Connect the app to Apple Health if you want your training to sit alongside the rest of your health data.

Your equipment. Tell the app what you have access to, whether that is a full gym, a home setup with a barbell and rack, or dumbbells only.

Your limitations. Flag any movements you cannot or would rather not do, so the app does not put them in front of you.

None of this is permanent. Every one of these settings can be changed later as your setup or your body changes.

These two steps matter most if you subscribe to Enode One+, which builds training plans for you. The plan is only as good as what you tell it, so an accurate equipment list and an honest set of limitations produce a plan you can actually follow. Without a subscription they simply shape what the app suggests. Pricing for One+ varies by country and is shown in the App Store.

Switching your sensor on for the first time

Sensors ship switched off, so the first thing to do is put it on charge.

  1. Connect the sensor to a power source with the included micro USB cable. Insert the cable straight, in the correct orientation, without force.
  2. The sensor starts flashing continuously, which means it is charging.
  3. You can disconnect it and use it straight away if you need to.

Handle the charging port carefully. Inserting the cable should never feel difficult. If you feel resistance, stop and check the cable is aligned straight rather than pushing harder. The logo on the cable should be visible from above when it is plugged in. Charge only with a micro USB cable. Do not use Lightning or USB Type-C cables.

What the sensor light means

Light behaviour What it means
Lights permanently, then turns off Charging. It goes out when the sensor is fully charged
Flashes every 2 seconds Ready to connect
Flashes every 0.75 seconds Something is wrong

Connecting the sensor

  1. Choose Connect sensor in the app. Keep the sensor and your phone within 10 cm, about 4 inches, of each other while they find one another.
  2. The app may ask you to calibrate. Rest the sensor on each of its six sides for one to two seconds, watching the on-screen sensor until each marker disappears.
  3. The sensor is connected and ready to use.

Once a sensor has been connected on a device, it reconnects on its own next time.

Coming from Enode Pro?

If you have been using Enode Pro and want to train on your own with Enode One instead, download the app and choose the individual pathway as above. If you are going the other way, or you are an existing Pro customer moving to the new Pro app, see Switching to the new Enode Pro instead: do not create a second account.
