Connecting and placing your sensor

Everything about getting a sensor onto the bar and talking to the app: connecting, where the sensor goes for each type of equipment, calibration, and SmartBar pairs. Connecting works the same way on iOS and Android. You can connect from inside an active training or from an empty station, so pairing can happen before the workout does.

Connecting a sensor

  1. Make sure Bluetooth is on. If it is off, the app tells you before it starts searching, so you are never left waiting on a search that cannot succeed.
  2. Tap the connect pill at the top of the station to open the connect sheet.
  3. Wake your sensor and bring it close to the device. The sheet shows a searching animation while it looks for sensors nearby.
  4. When the app finds and connects to your sensor, the animation becomes a live 3D view of it. You are ready to train.

From the connected view you can also check battery and calibration state, recalibrate, add a second SmartBar sensor, swap a sensor to another station, or disconnect.

Moving a sensor between stations

Sensors connect to the device, not to a single station, so you can reassign a connected sensor, or a whole SmartBar pair, to another station mid-session without disconnecting and re-pairing. Open the connect sheet on the station that should take the sensor and assign it there.

Disconnecting

Disconnect from the connect sheet. A deliberate disconnect stays disconnected. If the connection drops on its own, the app treats that differently and tries to get the sensor back automatically. See Sensor connection problems.

If no sensor is found

Check the sensor is charged and awake, then bring it closer. Normal range is around 15 metres, but walls and other equipment reduce it.

Where the sensor goes

Placement depends on the equipment the exercise uses. The app resolves this for you: the first time an exercise with a new placement comes up in a workout, a placement card appears with an illustration showing the sensor glowing in the right position.

The placement card appears once per placement per workout, so it reminds you when the equipment changes without nagging you on every set.

Why placement matters

The sensor measures motion. If it is mounted loosely or in the wrong position, the numbers describe the strap's movement rather than the bar's. Two habits keep your data clean. Mount the sensor firmly so it cannot rotate or slide during a rep, and keep the placement consistent between sessions so numbers stay comparable across weeks. Placement should be as central on the bar as possible, not outside the plates on a barbell.

We recommend always using the barbell strap. The sensor is designed to work without it, but the strap helps the measurement behave consistently and stops the sensor detaching from the equipment unintentionally.

Calibration

Calibration keeps your sensor's measurements accurate. The app shows your sensor's calibration state in the connect sheet, next to its battery level, so you always know whether it is needed.

  1. Open the connect sheet and choose Recalibrate.
  2. Put the sensor on a flat, stable surface.
  3. Follow the live 3D view. It highlights the face that should be pointing down, and marks each face as done once captured.
  4. Turn the sensor to the next highlighted face until all six are complete.

The app remembers which faces are already done, so an interruption does not mean starting over. Calibrate when the connect sheet says it is due, or if readings look off in a way that placement and mounting do not explain. A stable surface matters more than speed: let the sensor rest still on each face and the routine completes cleanly.

SmartBar pairs

A SmartBar is two Enode sensors on one bar, such as the Enode x Eleiko Bar Sensor Kit, working together as a single unit. The app merges both sensors' measurements into one result, and the pair keeps working even if only one sensor is connected.

  1. Connect the first sensor as above.
  2. In the connect sheet, choose to add the second SmartBar sensor and wake it.
  3. Assign each sensor to its side of the bar. You can swap sides at any time from the connect sheet, or remove one sensor and keep training with the other.

The connect pill shows a bar badge with a battery level for each side, so you can see both sensors at a glance.

Barbell exercises only. A SmartBar pair measures a barbell. If the current exercise does not use a barbell, the app shows an incompatible-equipment card and pauses rep capture until you either switch to a barbell exercise or connect a single sensor instead. This protects you from recording data that would not mean anything.

If one sensor drops, nothing is lost. The pair continues on the remaining sensor while the app tries to reconnect the missing one automatically. Redundancy is one of the reasons to train with a pair.
